The industrial team is heavily involved in bargaining for improved conditions in the TAFE, disability, and early childhood sectors.

In TAFE, alongside supporting members’ industrial action, we are focused on enforcing the provisions of the current TAFE agreement. Presently, our biggest case is against Bendigo Kangan Institute regarding alleged contraventions of ‘security of employment’ provisions. This includes BKI’s use of ‘maximum term’ contracts and failure to undertake a conversion process in April 2023. The AEU is seeking substantial penalties in its claim.

In disability, we have sought to advance the supported bargaining application for a multi-enterprise agreement that would supersede the zombie agreements still in operation. The AEU has served its witness statements, submissions, and other supporting material. Together with HACSU, the AEU has conferred with the various employers over the conduct of the application and the matter returns to the Fair Work Commission in June.

In the schools sector, we are focused on individual claims and providing representation in regulatory matters (particularly teacher registration). We have also achieved substantial compensation settlements for members who’ve been dismissed.
